Weslynn's March 2010 Newsletter

If you are a mystery writer and are reading this newsletter, I'm sure that you will agree with me that this years Sleuth Fest was all that you expected it to be and more. Before I left the conference, I took the time to review my work in progress. Making a few corrections, I then submitted my manuscript.

Upon returning home to southwest Florida, I found that I had received a contract from a traditional publisher for my novel, "Never Trust a Stranger." The book is about Eddie Haywood, a handsome, charismatic man in his late twenties with a Borderline Personality Disorder.

Undiagnosed, he is unaware of his condition. When Danni Gairdini, a beautiful and wealthy widow hires Eddie as her gardener and maintenance man, he mistakes her friendliness for attraction. Suspecting that her business partner is attracted to her, vows to destroy him and everyone else that he believe stands in his way of possessing her, body, mind, and spirit.

"Never Trust a Stranger," by Weslynn McCallister, writing as Jamie Cortland is set in south Florida and arrives at its dramatic and surprising conclusion in Austin, Texas. The book will be released in 2010 or at the very latest in early 2011.

Happy Birthday, Aries!

Tales of Pine Island Sound
By Weslynn McCallister

Tales of pirates,
lost treasures,
and Spanish Galleons
beckon.

Searching for lost days of romance,
adventure, and wonder,
my heart yearns for a century past.

Lost, in tales of Jose' Gaspar,
Josefa de Mayorga, Calico Jack,
and Anne Bonney, Pine Island Sound
holds my captive soul.

Weslynn's February 2010 Newsletter

Where on Earth are you? Wherever you are, the weather is bound to be just a little off kilter. Baltimore is snowed in and expecting more; Austin, Texas where I spend much of my time is cold, but definitely not snowed in. Florida, another of my favorite spots, was bitterly cold last month with temperatures dropping into the thirties on the beautiful southwest Florida coast. For those of you who live or are visiting areas receiving snow and ice, drive carefully, stock up on food and books, stay warm and enjoy the company of family and friends. Authors… finish your manuscripts, edit, and submit.

Speaking of submitting manuscripts, last month I finally completed my revised edition of “Romancing the Zodiac” by Weslynn McCallister, writing as Wes Alistair. The book has been submitted and will be published under the title of “A Poetic Journey through the Zodiac.” Additional content to include new free verse poems for each Planet and Sign has been added to the book.

What happened to “Never Trust a Stranger?” It is still in the works. More steamy love scenes between Pete and Danni are being added, intertwining them with high suspense as she is stalked by an employee who has attached himself to her and suffers from a Borderline Personality Disorder.

Happy Birthday, Pisces!

Angel on our Shoulders
By Weslynn McCallister

With a burden laying heavy on our hearts, once more at the crossroads of life, we sense the angel on our shoulders.

Whispering gently its great wisdom, listen to your inner voice, your God self.

Through this, you will fulfill your path of destiny, hurting none, benefiting many.

Angel on our shoulders, guiding us gently on our rocky paths, we strain to hear your whisper above life’s chaos.

Weslynn's January 2010 Newsletter

Happy New Year! 2010 is a number three year which indicates a year of creating new energy and self-expression. A glance at my ephemeris reveals that on January 15, a solar eclipse will occur at 25 degrees and 01 minutes of Capricorn. On January 16, Mercury will move into its direct position. Until then, it would be best to delay siging contracts as well as making major purchases and repairs.

December was a busy month for me filled with travel, visiting family, and celebrations. Somehow, I managed to continue working on forming my characters for my new novel. It is to be a romantic suspense set in southwest Florida filled with new characters that you will fall in love with. Along with that, I completed my submission package for "Never Speak to a Stranger." At present, I am querying agents and publishers.

"Never Speak to a Stranger" is a romantic suspense novel about Danni Giardini, a beautiful young widow and Eddie Haywood, a charismatic young man with a borderline personality disorder. After she hires him as her gardener and maintenance person, he becomes romantically attached to Danni. Upon discovering that her business partner is interested in her, he vows to destroy him and anyone else that he believes stands in his way of possessing her.

A fast paced novel, romance, danger, and murder trail Danni through south Florida deep into the Everglades and finally to Austin, Texas where the story reaches its dramatic and surprise ending.

Weslynn's December 2009 Newsletter

Happy Holidays! Santa came early to my house this year and I’m pleased to announce that my blog, Weslynn & Friends is ready for viewing. Please follow the link on this website to go to my new blog. You will find Tips for Writers, Interviews, Reviews, Synopses and excerpts of my work already posted. It is an interactive site, so please leave your comments or ask questions.

During the month of December, we will have two planets moving into their retrograde position. Mercury, the planet representing communication and transportation, will move into its retrograde position on December 26 at 21 degrees of Capricorn. As many of you already know, there will be more mechanical problems and breakdown of communications during this time. Traveling may be difficult with more delays and accidents than usual. Please give yourself more time during this period, especially since this will occur during the holidays. By January 15, Mercury will move into its direct position.

Mars, the planet representing action, aggression, and energy will move into its retrograde position on December 19 at 19 degrees of Leo and will remain in its retrograde state for eighty days. When a planet is said to move into its retrograde position, the planet never actually moves backwards, but it appears to due to its position in orbit and its relationship to Earth. Expect Mars in its retrograde position to intensify in its effect in your chart for the eighty days that it is retrograde. I will post an article on Mars Retrograde on my blog today.

Remember that books make great gifts! You may order all of my novels with the exception of” Romancing the Zodiac” through this site, autographed to whomever you designate. I’m happy to say that I am nearly finished with the new and revised edition of “Romancing the Zodiac”. Once the book is completed and is on its way to publication, I will let you know the release date.

Happy Birthday Capricorn!

A Frigid Winter’s Night
By Weslynn McCallister

The firelight flickered, casting eerie shadows upon a near empty room as a cold wind crept beneath the window sills.

The old frame house near ocean’s edge shuddered. Windows rattled in their frames as the storm approached.

Snuggled deep within my blankets, I longed for your warmth.

Though you’ve vanished, embers within my heart smoulder for you still.

The Band
By Weslynn McCallister

The rhythmic beat of the drums in the old café ‘near water’s edge beckons on a late winter’s eve.

As a brisk northeast wind kisses cheeks of cherry red, the tantalizing wail of a saxophone calls.

The boogie woogie beat of the piano keys sets our heels flying, inviting us to the old café near water’s edge.

Sheltered from winter’s icy breath, bodies sway in rhythmic beats, heels tap on a glistening wooden dance floor in an old café’ near water’s edge.

Mercury in Libra, Mansion of the Goddess
By Weslynn McCallister

Mercury in Libra is refined, quiet, and just. Fond of weighing matters, he has excellent judgment and reasoning powers.

Adaptable, with a sense of beauty and balance, he is tactful and diplomatic.

Weslynn's September 2009 Newsletter

Happy Labor Day weekend! Fall is on its way along with cooler temperatures which will be quite welcome here in Central Texas. Have fun this weekend. Drive carefully and be safe.

Mercury, the planet ruling communication and transportation, is beginning its retrograde turn this weekend. It will be in its retrograde position at 6 degrees of Libra on Monday, September 7 through September 29 when it will move into its direct position. During this time, traffic snarls, detours, and misunderstandings will be more prevalent than usual.

If you need to sign important papers, examine them carefully for they may contain errors. Be careful this holiday weekend and through to September 11. Mars at 5 degrees of Cancer in transit is square to Mercury which indicates arguments, misunderstandings, and accidents. The early degrees of the cardinal signs of Cancer, Libra, Aries, and Capricorn will be more prone to accidents and arguments during this time.

In regard to astrology, you may find more information on the subject in my book, “Timing is Everything; Astrology is the Key” by Wes Alistair. Did you know that Mercury is not the only planet that moves into a retrograde position? You may read more about the planets in chapter three of my book. All of my books and novels are available on-line at Amazon.com and by ordering through me at: weslynn3@netzero.com. Please state title of book in the reference line of your e-mail.

Dried Roses of Crimson
By Weslynn McCallister

Your soft voice and sparkling eyes of lightest tea linger in the recesses of my mind.

Yesterday’s love, indelibly imprinted upon my soul, remains a treasure still. Handsome suitors with golden coins and words of love are but a fleeting fancy as memories of you surface.

A photo, yellowed with age, roses of crimson, dried and crumbling are a reminder of long ago love.

Longing for you, searching among faces in far distant lands, your eyes of lightest tea beckon still.

Pieces of Eight
By Weslynn McCallister

His eyes of cerulean blue sparkled through the shade of his ebony sombrero.

Steam rose from the bayou as lazy alligators concealed themselves within the mangroves.

Thick southern pines cloaked in veils of elegant Spanish moss held secrets of buccaneer’s hideaways. With the golden sun’s brilliant setting, crimson reflections upon the bayou promised to reveal buried gems and pieces of eight.

As a cloak of darkness descended upon a land rich with legends, tales were told under a full moon’s magical glow.

Crickets hummed as mysterious memories were sung in ancient tunes while Jean Lafitte beckoned from the dreamtime.

Weslynn's July 2009 Newsletter

I hope you all had a spectacular and safe Fourth of July! In honor of Independence Day, “Wyatt’s Deck,” my time travel romance novel, will be on sale for the month of July for the price of $7.50 + tax per copy if ordered from this site. I’ll be happy to autograph copies of the novel to you or anyone you wish. Following, is an excerpt of “Wyatt’s Deck”:

Four pair of legs clad in dark trousers tucked inside high-heeled cowboy boots surrounded her. Most of the boots had spurs. All of them were dirty and smelled like horse manure, except for one pair of shiny black ones. She couldn’t see who they belonged to from beneath the round wooden table.
The tap-tap of high heels approached. The owner, definitely a woman or a talented cross-dresser, possessed shapely legs and wore out of date button topped shoes with two inch heels, like the saloon girls of the old west had worn. Weird. She felt as if she was at a costume party. Not only am I not wearing a costume, I’m not in the mood for a party!
She rubbed her jaw. Throbbing, it felt like a spear had run through it. Maybe the bone had splintered. It was wet and warm…like blood. “Ugh,” she grunted as a large boot kicked her in the side. Another, not so large, at least it didn’t feel as large nudged her gently on her derriere. I’ve got to get out from under this table before I’m kicked to death. She began to crawl, looking for a space between the legs to crawl through.
“Good afternoon, darling.” A pleasant but thickly accented southern male voice drawled.
“Good afternoon, Doc,” a woman answered with a smile in her voice. “What can I do for you? Will you have your usual?”
“A whiskey, neat,” the man said and broke into a fit of coughing.

Please note that excerpts, reviews and synopsis are available to read for all of my novels. Just click on Excerpts.

Happy Birthday Cancer! Wishing all of a miraculous year filled with wonderful surprises.

Hot Salsa Nights
By Weslynn McCallister

His eyes of cerulean blue sparkled through the shade of his ebony sombrero.

Darkly tanned, long and lean, he filled the doorway of the old saloon, his lizard skin boots tapping to the beat of a hot salsa tune.

My eyes met his from across the smoke filled room. Mesmerized, I rose, drawn by his mysterious aura. Swaying to the beat of the music, we joined, tapping our heels to the rhythm of the band.

Moving together on a steamy summer’s eve, near the border of Mexico, we danced into a destiny of hot salsa nights.

Weslynn's June 2009 Newsletter

Father’s Day is rapidly approaching… Sunday, June 14. Don’t forget to honor your father with a gift, a card, or a phone call. Make this day special for him.

If you haven’t already read my most recent romantic suspense novel, SKIN DEEP by Weslynn McCallister, writing as Jamie Cortland, you may want to check out the new excerpt that I am adding to weslynn.com this month. This is a fast paced book and one that you will want to read through to the end without stopping. You may order an autographed copy from me on this site. All of my books may be ordered on-line with the exception of Romancing the Zodiac. It is out of print though I am in the process of revising and adding additional content. I expect it will be released in about a year just about the same time “SURVIVORS” should be released.

In last month’s newsletter, I explained what to do once you have completed your manuscript. Before you submit to an agent or a publisher, don’t forget to write a synopsis, a query, and a one sentence pitch describing your book. Check your targeted publisher’s guidelines and send them precisely what they expect. Some publishers prefer a 1-2 page synopsis; others want to see a 25 page synopsis, plus a query and two or three chapters or an outline. You may go to http://www.charlottedillon.com/synopsis.html for a list of sites as well as articles to read for writing both query letters and synopses.

First of the air triplicity, Mercury has generously bestowed gifts of fine wit, sound reasoning, and communication skills upon his twins.

Bejeweled in aquamarines, adorned in gossamer chiffon, spontaneous Gemini vibrates to number seventeen.

Inconstant as the wind, ever changing Gemini vibrates to Aquarius, Libra, Aries, and Leo.

Weslynn's May 2009 Newsletter

Many famous and talented people have been born during the month of May. Among them are Tammy Wynette, Robert Browning, Rudolph Valentino, Candice Bergen, David O. Selznick, Daphne du Maurier, Bobby Darin, Harold Robbins, Al Jolson, Hank Williams, Jr., and Wynonna Judd. If you would like to know who was born on your birthday, go to this great site: http://www.fun4birthdays.com.

After working for nearly a year on my new romantic suspense novel, “Survivors,” I am happy to say that I have finally typed THE END! This doesn’t mean that I don’t have more work to do on the novel or that it will be published immediately. If you are a published novelist, you are aware of that. If not, you may be interested in the process. First of all, I hope that when you began writing your book, you decided upon your target market and a publisher or an agent to submit to. Most publisher’s guidelines are available on the internet. Be sure the publisher that you choose publishes the genre that you are writing and that they accept your word count. The Writer’s Market and Jeff Hermann’s Guides to Agents are great references.

After you type THE END, edit your manuscript, evaluate it, and make any corrections necessary. Your next step is to submit it exactly as the submission guidelines require. If you don’t follow the guidelines, your manuscript will end up in the shredder. If you receive a rejection letter, remember that writing is subjective. Submit, submit, submit until you receive an acceptance. Once your manuscript is accepted, the publisher will send it to his in-house editor. You may need to make revisions. Once your book is perfect, your manuscript will go to the formatter, and the graphic designer. Finally, it’s released!!

Venus, affectionate, warmhearted, and generous is a romantic dreamer. Falling in love at first sight with the ambitious and impulsive warlord, she hastily entered a tempestuous relationship with him.

Once the warlord surrendered his heart to the Goddess of love, she quickly tired of him. Parting, she traveled the world, making many friends, giving generously to the less fortunate.

Successful with her many beautiful paintings, sculptures and poetry, she continued her romantic escapades, forming partnerships that resulted in discord.

Attracted to the fire and air signs, you will find this freedom loving Goddess in theatres, museums and art galleries.

Happy New Year 2009!

With a charismatic and compelling new President-elect taking office, global warming, and the recent downward trend of the global economy, I was curious what 2009 might mean indicate in a numerological sense.

The New Year 2009 reduces to the number 29. Taken further it reduces to the Master number of 11 and finally, to the number 2. What does this mean? As a number 2 year, 2009 will be a year of great changes, a year of testing which will present serious choices to all. Globally, our decisions must be made for the good of all.

Challenges and opportunities will arise. It’s important that the positive is stressed, the negative discarded. Balance is the key as well as integrity, strength and gentleness. We must truly unite as a globally society. From this, an opportunity for the extension of love and forgiveness is offered to humanity.

This coming year, visionaries and spiritual leaders will become our new celebrities with messages of faith, hope, harmony. and co-operation. Worldwide, it is in our best interests to heed their words.

The colors… yes… there are colors to be worn for 2009 that will attract more positive results. They are yellow, black, white, apricot, and gold.

A Frigid Winter’s Night
By Weslynn McCallister

The firelight flickered, casting eerie shadows upon a near empty room as a cold wind crept beneath the window sills.

The old frame house near ocean’s edge shuddered. Windows rattled in their frames as the storm approached.

Snuggled deep within my blankets, I longed for the warmth that we once shared.

Though you’ve vanished, embers within my heart smolder for you still.

Weslynn's November 2008 Newsletter

Thick glistening snowflakes are falling this evening in Taos, New Mexico as Taos Mountain beckons skiers to its slopes for the opening on Thanksgiving Day. Though it’s beautiful here in the Rockies, I am curled up by the fire with pen in hand working on my new novel, "Survivors." It is a romantic suspense and sequel to "Skin Deep," my newest release. I promise "Survivors" will be just as compelling and suspenseful as "Skin Deep". Speaking of “Skin Deep,” autographed copies are now available at the Bookworm in Frisco, Tx. near Dallas. As you know, autographed copies of "Skin Deep" and all of my books are available by ordering through this site.

If you live in or near Poplar Bluff, Mo. I hope you were listening to the Rick Carl Show KWOC this morning at 8:35AM CST. We spoke at some length about "Skin Deep." He was also interested in how one with a desire to write might begin. This is a question I’ve been asked many times. My suggestion is to enroll in a Creative Writers Course; join a national writer’s organization like, the Romance Writers of America, the National Writer’s Association, or Sisters in Crime. Do attend writer’s conferences and seminars. Another suggestion is to purchase a copy of Robin Carr’s book, "Writing Popular Fiction," or"How I Write" by Janet Evanovich. Most of all, have fun and start writing now...tonight.

Happy Birthday Sagittarius! My poem for November is Taos Brave.

Taos Brave
By Weslynn McCallister

Nearing sunset, sitting proud and erect upon his stallion of deepest midnight, his regal silhouette cast against Taos Mountain beckoned.

Drawn by his mysterious essence, I moved toward him through the sagebrush of the high mesa. He turned slowly, his shining ebony hair rippling in a light summer’s breeze. An ancient familiarity seized me as his sparkling ebony eyes met mine. Mesmerized, captured by his spirit as I’d been in lifetimes past, I rode with him deep into the Rockies.

Not a word was spoken for he did not speak my language nor I his. Yet, I remained hypnotized, forever with my Taos brave.

Weslynn's October 2008 Newsletter

Happy Halloween! It doesn’t seem possible, but this holiday is just around the corner. Dreaded by some, celebrated by others, I decided to research the origin of Halloween. The results varied by cultures and religions. The most intriguing premise I discovered was by folklorist, Jack Santino who suggested that Halloween was all about inverting societal norms so that children held power over adults. Carl B. Holmberg’s essay, "Things That Go Snap-Rattle-Clang-Toot-Crank in the Night," theorized that Halloween noisemakers provided the ritual by which this inversion was possible. Hide the noisemakers, have fun, and most of all, have a happy and safe Halloween!

Have you noticed communication and transportation problems have been occurring more often since September 24? You will begin to notice a gradual improvement in these areas beginning on October 15th when the planet Mercury moves into its direct motion. Thankfully, all is clear on November 4, Election Day. Mark the date and vote for the candidates of your choice!

Happy Birthday Scorpio!

My poem for the month is "The Sorceress" which is copyrighted and appears in my poetry book, “Shifting Sands".

The Sorceress
By Weslynn McCallister

Sorceress of old, gazing through your sparkling crystal ball, images dance in the mist.

With a twinkle in your eye, a bangle of gypsy bracelets, you foretell amazing tales of future days.

Autumn leaves fall, Halloween nears. With a booth at the old country fair, you beckon with a wink of your glimmering Gypsy’s eye.

Weslynn's September 2008 Newsletter

Labor Day weekend was full of surprises! Thankfully, Hurricane Gustav lost much of its punch before it struck Louisiana. As a result, one of my favorite cities, New Orleans, was spared from experiencing the sequel of Hurricane Katrina.

On September 2 at 10:00 AM/CST, I was interviewed by “Crazy Dougie” of WANB in Waynesburg, Pa. What a great interview! Within just a few minutes, Crazie Dougie had covered all of my novels to include my newest release, SKIN DEEP, written under my pseudonym, Jamie Cortland. He also covered APACHE SPRINGS, WYATT’S DECK, and PROPHECIES of the ANCIENTS by Weslynn McCallister. If you are in the areas my interviews are broadcasted from, I hope that you have been listening. They are all different, but all of my hosts have been wonderful!

I promised you the answers to July’s contest. Surprisingly, there was not a winner this time. The answers are:
Heartbreak Hotel: Music by Mae Boren Axton; Lyrics by Tommy Durden
Cherry Pink & Apple Blossom White: Music by Loviavy; French Lyrics by Jacque Larue
The Look of Love: Lyrics by Hal David: Music by Burt Bacharach
On a Clear Day You Can See Forever: Lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner; Music by Burton Lane

September’s Sea
By Weslynn McCallister

A cool autumn breeze ruffled her vibrant hair of burnished red as she strolled down a narrow shell path, sprinkled with golden leaves.

Emerging from tall swaying sea oats surrounding the path, she settled upon a pale yellow bench near water’s edge.

As she gazed upon a bare and desolate beach, the incoming tide gathered its treasures returning them to the cool September sea.

A sea bird soared from the heavens, landing nearby as an autumn’s sun began to set, casting a blaze of crimson and violet shadows upon the sandy shore.

As the September’s sea shown in its autumn glory, she rose, her faith renewed by nature’s beauty.

An Old Saloon by Water’s Edge
By Weslynn McCallister

On a warm tropical eve, under a star-studded sky, the sound of the piano man’s tunes beckon me to enter the old saloon near water’s edge.

In a dimly lit corner, in a smoke filled room, he beckons with dancing fingers and a promise in his eyes of hazel.

With a wink and a smile, the piano man’s clever wit and melodic voice, strum the strings to my heart.

Gemini, Twins of Mercury
By Weslynn McCallister

A hush fell over the land as Mercury, ruler of Gemini and Virgo, announced the incarnation of his twins, Castor and Pollux.

First of the air triplicity, Mercury has generously bestowed gifts of fine wit, sound reasoning, and communication skills upon his twins.

Bejeweled in aquamarines, adorned in gossamer chiffon, spontaneous Gemini vibrates to number seventeen.

A curious restless child, Gemini is seldom home. Elusive as quicksilver, Gemini rules the hands, arms, shoulders, lungs and nervous system.

Inconstant as the wind, ever changing Gemini is drawn to Aquarius, Libra and Leo.

Weslynn's May 2008 Newsletter

Happy Cinco de Mayo! This is indeed a day to celebrate. The 5th of May should perhaps be Mexican Independence Day, but it is not. On September 15, 1810, Mexico declared its independence from Spain. Eleven years later, the first Spanish soldiers were asked and forced to leave Mexico. So why do we celebrate Cinco de Mayo? On the morning of May 5, 1862, 4,000 Mexican soldiers defeated the French and traitorous Mexican army of 8,000 at Puebla, Mexico, 100 miles east of Mexico City. You may read more about this at http://www.vivacincodemayo.org/history.htm

May is a beautiful month in the United States and in the Hill Country of Texas. The weather is beautiful, perfect for gardening. I am told that the best days for planting above-ground crops are May 8, 9, 17, 18 and 19. May 5, 15 and 16 are good. Root crops and perennials are best planted on May 1, 27, 28 and 29. The 4, 22, and 23 are considered good. Just this morning, I planted yellow and red roses in my garden and though I know my source is reliable, I have my fingers crossed.

In regard to my novels, the new re-edited edition of “Prophecies of the Ancients”, a sci-fi fantasy novel by Weslynn McCallister has just been released by Crystal Dreams Publishing, an imprint of Multi-Media Publications Inc. This 414 page epic novel is available in paperback and four different types of e-books. You will find them at most on-line bookstores and through the publisher at www.mmpubs.com. The ISBN# for the paperback edition 978-159146-014-5. The paperback price: $13.00 USD. The ebook: $7.45 GBP.

Mother’s Day is May 11. Don’t forget to remember your mother if only with a special telephone call or a card. May 17 is Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day falls on May 26.

Weslynn's April 2008 Newsletter

Springtime is here! In the Texas Hill County where I live, multi-colored wildflowers cover the hillsides as well as Bluebonnets creating a breathtaking panorama of spectacular beauty. However, along with the onset of spring, colds and allergies abound. If you or a loved one is desperately seeking a remedy to a springtime cold or allergy, Dr. William A. McGary, author of “The Edgar Cayce Remedies,” suggests the following:

Cleanse your body and soak in a hot tub until perspiring; increase your circulation by light exercise and massage; rest; eliminate sweets and starches. Adjust your body to an alkaline state. Recommended is a diet of fruit and fruit juices for the first twenty-four hours. Drink lots of water. Gradually add vegetables and light foods. After three days, you may add chicken, fish or lamb, but no fried foods or pork. Add starches slowly.

To eliminate colds and viruses, always keep your body in an alkaline condition. “Alkalize or Die”, a book by Theodore A. Baroody, contains not only guidelines to achieve a high level of vitality, but also recipes and menus.

Stay Healthy! Enjoy the season!

Rushing in where angels fear to tread, Aries is adorned in shades of vibrant red. Vibrating to number thirteen, his courage is unparalled as his energy peaks on Tuesday.

Lady in Red
By Weslynn McCallister

Unaccustomed to the dim lights of the saloon, she stood at the entry searching for those that awaited.

He did not see her, nor she him, for if she had, she would have fled in a moment. No one knew a fateful moment in hovered near.

As the music began, she slowly retreated to a far corner to await her friends. Seeing a familiar face, she joined him, swaying to the beat of the music.

Her silken ruby red dress caressed her hour glass figure, drawing the eyes of one she had once loved. Within moments, he was beside her, vying for her attentions.

She did not recognize him for the years had transformed him; yet, his essence was familiar and beloved. Within moments, her heart was his again.

As he took her in his arms, he knew immediately he had a second chance for she did not know it was him. As they circled the floor together, their hearts beat as one. He vowed he would spark her eternal love for he knew he had never lost it.

Weslynn's January 2008 Newsletter

Happy New Year 2008! This is a universal number one year for the world which indicates new beginnings and a drive to initiate and move forward. This number represents our leaders, pioneers, and visionaries.

Numerology is a fascinating subject and there are many good books available. If you wish to pursue it, one of the books that I would suggest is “Numerology, the Power in Numbers.” Just as astrology, I do not consider it fortune telling. There are no bad numbers, not even number thirteen which reduces to a number four. I have never been superstitious, but for those of you who are, you may find it interesting to know that number four indicates orderliness, structure, practicality, and efficiency. There is a time and place for everything. Whatever your personal number is for the year, I wish you much success and happiness.

Speaking of success, Capricorn, in general, your wishes for expansion, better health, and good fortune are about to come true this year. Jupiter, the planet signifying good fortune and expansion, will be transiting your sign all year. Be careful what you wish for! It just may come true. For those of you who are on a diet and have Capricorn ascending, you will need to be especially careful. With Jupiter conjunct your ascendant or favorably aspecting it, you may have a tendency to expand in the waistline. Happy Birthday to all of you who were born under the sign of Capricorn between December 21st through January 20th. My poem for you this month is an old one, but one of my favorites.

Scorpio, Daughter of Pluto Godchild of Mars
By Weslynn McCallister

The Earth trembled with a violent shudder as Pluto announced the imminent arrival of his daughter, Scorpio.

Second of the water triplicity, the daughter of Pluto rules the reproductive and destructive process. A fruitful, feminine sign of long ascension, Scorpio is nocturnal, courageous, passionate, and tenacious.

God child of Mars, Pluto’s daughter is ambitious and investigative. Scorpio is often found among surgeons, chemists, detectives and researchers.

Adorned in a silken gown of crimson and midnight, she shrewdly inspects her vineyards. Sparing with Leo and Aquarius, she captures her lifelong mate among the signs of Cancer, Capricorn, and Pisces.

Happy Halloween! If you don’t want to stay home alone on this spooky evening, I have some great ideas!

Take a Ghost tour in one of the most haunted cities in the United States. Visit Boston, Gettysburg, Key West, New Orleans, Salem, Savannah, St. Augustine or Hollywood. If you live in the UK, visit a haunted castle. Why not stay in a haunted hotel? Maybe, Hotel Vendome in Prescott, Arizona, or the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. Request room 217. Steven King wrote half of “The Shining” in that room. If that’s not exciting enough, room 418 is reported to have the most ghostly activity. If you live in Florida, stay at the Don Cesar Beach Resort in St. Petersburg. Not only is this a beautiful hotel, it is on the gulf and is haunted by Thomas Rowe who built the hotel as a tribute to his love, Lucinda. Here’s one that sounds so creepy, even I wouldn’t stay there ! How about Lizzie Borden’s Bed & Breakfast in Fall River, Ma. Yikes! For more information on haunted hotels, go to: http://www.hauntedaccomodations.com.

The Sorceress
By Weslynn McCallister

Sorceress of old,
gazing through your
sparkling crystal ball,
images dance in the mist.

With a twinkle in your eye,
a bangle of Gypsy bracelets,
You foretell amazing tales of
future days.

Autumn leaves fall, Halloween nears.
With a booth at the old country
fair, you beckon with a wink of your glimmering Gypsy’s eye.

Weslynn's September Newsletter

I hope all of you were able to view the beautiful and colorful meteors cascading down from the constellation of Auriga, compliments of the Comet Kiess. Those in Hawaii and the western areas of North America from Mexico to California and Alaska had the best seats in the house.

That isn't all that the heavens have to offer this month. On September 11th, A partial eclipse of the Sun will occur at 18 degrees 25 seconds of Virgo. This partial solar eclipse will be visible in parts of Antarctica and South America, except in the northern areas and in the south west areas of the Atlantic Ocean.

On September 3rd, Saturn will moved into the sign of Virgo for approximately the next two years. For the fixed signs of Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius, and Taurus, that will be a relief for all of you in the areas of children, speculation, romance, and entertainment. For the mutable signs of Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces, and Gemini, remember to have your physical check ups on time and take especially good care of your employees as well as your beloved pets.

September's Sea
By Weslynn McCallister

A cool autumn breeze ruffled her vibrant hair of burnished red as she strolled down a narrow shell path, sprinkled with golden leaves.

Emerging from tall swaying sea oats surrounding the path, she settled upon a pale yellow bench near waters edge.

As she gazed upon a bare and desolate beach, the incoming tide gathered its treasures, returning them to the cool September's sea.

A seabird soared from the heavens landing nearby as an autumn's sun began to set, casting a blaze of crimson and violet shadows upon the sandy shore.

As the September's Sea shown in its autumn glory, she rose, her faith renewed by nature's beauty.

Weslynn's August Newsletter

I hope everyone had a happy and safe July 4th last month. This summer, I have been in the Hill Country of central Texas working on a novel. With all of the floods and rain Texas has been having, I have missed the beaches. I’ll make up for that later with trips to the coast. For now, the tropics are beginning to heat up. Those of you who are living in coastal areas would be wise to stock up on hurricane supplies if you have not already done so.

Last month, I promised you a new contest. Since I am working on a time travel romance novel set in the late 1800’s, that is what it will be about. The first person to answer all of my questions will win a complimentary copy of my free verse poetry book, “Shifting Sands.” A new cover is being designed for it and I should have copies available in just about a month. If you would rather have a complimentary copy of another book, just let me know. Please send all of your correspondence to me at weslynn3@netzero.com. Don’t forget to Re: Aug. Newsletter.

Leo, Child of the Sun
By Weslynn McCallister

As the Sun God gazed upon the gently rolling hills below, a window in the tower of a distant castle glowed brightly as his child, Leo, took his first breath.

Making his presence known to all by his commanding cry, Leo summoned his followers as the Sun God proudly looked on.

Born of a northern sign of long ascension, rule of the heart, sides, and upper back, Leo is vital, fortunate, daring, and generous.

Loyal and kind, his love for the wild beasts of the forests is known to one and all.

Mezermized, I rose, drawn by his mysterious aura. Swaying to the beat of the music, we joined, tapping our heels to the rythm of the band.

Moving together on a steamy summer's eve, near the border of Mexico, we danced into a destiny of hot salsa nights.

Mercury, Messenger of the Gods
By Weslynn McCallister

Mercury, ruler of Gemini and Virgo, a youthful communicator of the zodiac, oversees the nervous system, hands, arms, shoulders and collar bone.

With wisdom beyond his years, he travels with duality and speed. Witty, fond of investigating, he is restless, talkative and shrewd.

Eloquent and clever, he is capable of neurotic, cunning and critical behavior. Beware of him when he is in his retrograde position, for it is then, communications, travel and all things ruled by Mercury slow and go awry.

If he is your ruler, you are often found in the travel business, communications, literary fields and libraries.

The Remembrance
By Weslynn McCallister

On a late summer’s day, you departed unexpectedly on the journey you foretold. That afternoon, a void entered my life never to be filled again.

‘Twas more than thirty summers past when first I gazed into your flashing eyes of deepest brown. With an innocents trust, I placed my new life into your hands.

You cared with love and gentleness for the young girl with dimples of her father and hair of auburn.

As the young girl became a woman, you taught her principles you held dear.

Gone are you now, Mother, yet not forgotten. Images drift into my mind of a tall, lonely raven haired beauty.

You so longed to be with one you loved, yet spent so few years this lifetime with. That summer’s afternoon, you joined my father beyond the veil.

Weslynn's April Newsletter

Wishing everyone a belated Happy Easter! I hope all of you enjoyed the holiday.

With the recent forcast of many global climate changes soon to occur due to global warming, I have been doing research on-line, especially in regard to the animal and sea life species. This is leading me down new paths, perhaps to a new sci-fi novel based on what is now occuring. For those of you who read "Prophecies of the Ancients," you may remember in Chapter 30, a few of the coming earth changes predicted by Edgar Cayce, Nostrodumas and the bible were mentioned.

If you are interested in doing all we can to delay or better yet prevent these climate changes from occuring, you may want to read more about the subject. Following are a couple of interesting sites you may want to go to:

Officially, at midnight of February 28th, my contest on Wyatt Earp ended. At that point there was not a winner.
Following are the answers to the questions:

3. The standby weapon for buffalo hunters during the fall of 1871 was the Sharps “Fifty” rifle.

6. Wyatt Earp arrived Tombstone, Arizona on Dec 1, 1879 as Deputy Sheriff of Pima County.

A Maiden Forevermore
By Weslynn McCallister

Dressed in finest silk of palest blue, a collar of delicate lace, she smiles gently into her gilded looking glass.

Gazing upon her face of eighty and two, she beholds a soul weathered with time. Gentle lines betray her lively humor.

Sparkling eyes of darkest chocolate shine radiantly upon those she loves.

Ageless in attitude, she dances with grace through her golden days, a maiden forevermore.

    Dreams of an Adventurer
    By Weslynn McCallister

His eyes of sapphire blue twinkle as his
    audience gathers ‘round a late
    winter’s camp fire.

Snowflakes fall lazily upon his curly
golden hair as he snuggles into his
    warm winter’s jacket.

With a smile so sunny, he tells tales
of warmer days, of high adventure
in foreign lands and exotic places.
Sipping his grog, he winks and smiles
as he reveals his long awaited trophy,
won on a warm winter’s day while
surfing a far away ocean’s wave.

As a winter’s moon rises and campfire
embers dim, my son, of twenty and
eight slumbers, dreaming of exotic lands
    and faraway places.

    Weslynn's November Newsletter Newsletter

November brings to mind the coming holidays, warm family gatherings and wonderful foods. But these jjoyful times are often accompanied with holiday colds and jet lag. There is a way to avoid both jet lag and colds. In order to minimize jet lag, drink a lot of water while airborne, and don't drink alcohol.

As far as the common cold is concerned, be sure to keep your system in an alkaline state. Eat fruits and vegetables, do not combine starches with meat. Instead, combine your meats with vegetables and fruits.

When planning a meal including starches, pastas, rice, potatoes and breads, combine these with vegetables and fruits. A great book to read on the holistic approach to health remedies is THE EDGAR CAYCE REMEDIES by William McGary.

If you're a writer and are looking for a great conference to attend during the second weekend of November, plan on going to the annual Florida Writers Association's conference in Orlando, Florida. On the following weekend, don't miss The Miami International Book Fair. Many wonderful authors will be at both.

Happy Thanksgiving. My poem for the month is below.

    Pluto, Master of the Subconscious
    By Weslynn McCallister

Pluto, ruler of Scorpio, is the Master of
the subconscious mind. Creative and hypnotic,
he demands transformation. Perched on a jagged
mountain, in his highest form, he is the ruler of
    surgeons and chemists.

In his lowest incarnation, he is ruler of murderers,
    propagandists, corrupt politicians and dictators.
Beware, for his sting is as deadly as the scorpions.

    Weslynn's September Newsletter 2006

All eyes are on the heavens as September opens with a lunar eclipse in the sensitive sign of Pisces. This is a wonderful time to stop for a moment and think about your goals and just where you are in life. Take time to nourish your spirit. Set aside a morning or a couple of hours to do what most intrigues to you. Do not include friends, children, spouses or lovers. This may prove difficult, but we all need time to ourselves. If you continue to do this once a week, you will be amazed at the results.

If you’re expecting to see a beautiful Harvest Moon this month and are thinking about planning a romantic event at that time, keep in mind that it will not occur until October 7th this year. (The Harvest Moon is the full Moon closest to the Autumn equinox which falls on Sept. 23rd.)

Pluto...Many opinions have been expressed in regard to Pluto being demoted to the status of a dwarf planet. As far as I am concerned and many other astrologers, it will still be treated the same as it always has been in the interpretation of horoscopes. It will be neither stronger nor will it be weaker. It will still be considered as the planet of transformation. It has proved itself just that by transforming itself. If you have an opinion on the Pluto petition and would like to sign it, go to http://plutopetition.com.

During the month of September and October, I will be working on my work in progress, but during November, several major events are coming up. There are conferences and book signings every weekend that I will be attending and participating in. You may track my book signings on my colander expect for last minute signings.

As she gazed upon a bare and desolate beach, the incoming tide gathered its treasures, returning them to the cool September sea.

A sea bird soared from the heavens, landing nearby as an autumn’s sun began to set, casting a blaze of crimson and violet shadows upon the sandy shore.

As the September’s sea shown in its autumn glory, she rose, her faith renewed by nature’s beauty.

If you’re an astrology buff, don’t forget about my new release, “Timing is Everything; Astrology is the Key,” a free-will astrology book by Wes Alistair. Available at Trafford.com/06-0236.

A hot summer’s day is also a great time for a movie. “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” was great! Johnny Depp is at his best.

Happy Birthday to all of my Leo friends.

Leo; King of the Zodiac By Weslynn McCallister

Noble and proud, courageous Leo basks in a golden spotlight of adoration. The center of attention, he is at his best ruling with dignity and integrity.

Dramatic and introverted, he shines in the entertainment industry and the sports arenas.

Beckoning his mate from the fire and air signs of Aries, Gemini, Libra and Sagittarius, he demands loyalty and may place the object of his affections upon a pedestal. Freedom loving Aquarius must take heed for jealous and possessive Leo will surely be attracted to his opposite sign.

    Weslynn's July Newsletter 2006

I hope that all of you had a happy and safe Fourth of July. Since I spent the day in Melbourne, Florida, mine was particularly exciting. For the first time ever in the 45-year history of the U.S. human space flight program, a Fourth of July launch took place. At 4:30 p.m, powered by two rocket boosters and three main engines, Discovery lifted off its launch pad and swept over the Atlantic. What a tremendous sight and what a wonderful birthday present for the U.S.A!

For those of you who do not yet have a copy of my new release, “Timing is Everything; Astrology is the Key,” following is a short synopsis of my free-will astrology book:

Have you ever planned that once in a lifetime event only to have it canceled due to weather, illness, or an accident? Wouldn’t you love to have a roadmap of your life; one that pointed the way to love, success, good health and money? Or, if you’re single and longing to meet Mr. or Ms. Right you will be able to determine just when you might meet him or her. Unless free will steps in, there will be no more meeting your soul mate on a bad hair day dressed in rags.

There is a time and place for everything. With perfect timing and a positive attitude, it is possible for your dreams to become a reality.

If you would like to order this book, it is available through the publisher, trafford.com/06-0236; Amazon.com, Borders.com or through me if you would like an autographed copy. This is a book that was written with the intention of teaching basic astrology. If you do not have a copy of your natal chart or do not know the placement of your planets, but would like to order the book, email me at weslynn3@netzero.com . Please type the title of the book in the subject line. I will send you a complimentary diagram of your chart and a list of the placement of your planets. It will be up to you to do interpret as you read along, chapter by chapter. That’s the fun part. After reading about yourself, you may want to read about your family or friends.

Have a wonderful and safe July!

    Sanctuary
    by Weslynn McCallister

Reclining upon a sugar white beach shaded by softly swaying palms, my eye was drawn by a tall blue heron striding elegantly through the sanctuary.

Searching for delicacies as he wades through the clear sapphire lagoon, a lone fisherman stands upon a worn pier patiently awaiting his catch.

As the miracle of wildlife and nature unfold, my spirit is renewed, the hum of a faraway city forgotten.

May is nearly upon us. Gardenias are blooming, the weather is warm, and ‘gators are seeking their mates; lounging alongside riverbanks. A flash of green as the sun slips below the horizon reminds me that summer is nearly upon us. In the Southern states and in the Caribbean, it’s time to make preparations and stock up for the hurricane season. Make certain your homeowners or renters insurance policies are up to date.

Discovering she is in Tombstone, Arizona, she is convinced she is still in the Twenty-first Century witnessing an historical reenactment of the Old West. It is only when two people who have recently betrayed her convince her that she has arrived in 1881 as they have, that she realizes her enemies are now Johnny Ringo and the Clanton gang, not Sherri and her ex-fiancee, Steven.

With an innocents trust, I placed my new life in your hands.

You cared with love and gentleness for the young girl with dimples of her father and hair of auburn.

As the young girl became a woman, you taught her the principals you held dear.

Gone are you now, Mother, yet not forgotten. Images drift into my mind of a tall, lonely raven haired beauty.

You so longed to be with one you loved yet spent so few years this lifetime with. That summer’s afternoon, you joined my father beyond the veil.

    Afternoon in Paradise
    by Weslynn McCallister

    Reclining in a hammock,
strung high in a gazebo by the sea, gulls circle overhead.

Sea oats rustle softly as sea turtles creep home. Wild baby’s breath bloom among sticker patches, casting dappled shadows upon lazy lizards sunning.

An incoming tide splashes upon platinum sands as tiny sandpipers play their never ending games at water’s edge.

As a tropical sun melts into sparkling turquoise seas, a flash of emerald green brings a longing for another afternoon in paradise.

    Weslynn's March Newsletter 2006

March opens with Mercury going into its retrograde position on the 2nd. On March 25th, the planet will move into its direct position. As many of you know, communications and travel will be difficult during the time this planet is retrograde. It is best to complete old projects rather than to begin new ones.

It is my hope that all of you and your loved ones have been well this winter. Many have fallen ill to colds and the flue. A good diet and vitamins will always help to keep your immune system strong; however, sometimes it seems there is just no way to help but falling ill when exposed. My writing was placed on hold for a week last month due to just that. But, because of it,I did receive a much needed rest and read two great books...."The Secret Sister" by Elizabeth Lowell and "Darker Than Midnight" by Maggie Shayne."

As for my own work, I'm feeling great now and working on my time-travel romance. Coming Soon: "Timing is Everything:Astrology is the Key" by Wes Alistair, pseudonym of Weslynn McCallister.

Happy Birthday Aries! Below is a brand new poem, especially for you.

    Venus in Aries
    by Weslynn McCallister

Venus, Goddess of Love and ruler of Taurus and Libra, is not at her best when placed in the innovative and aggressive sign of Aries.

Passionate and impulsive in matters of love, Venus placed in this sign often loses interest once she has won your heart. Beware of this creature for the chase is all.

In social matters, Venus in Aries sparkles. Upbeat, cheerful and creative, she beckons Aquarius, Gemini, Leo and Libra.

    The Magical Gown
    by Weslynn McCallister

As a blazing sunset of crimson and gold faded into evening, a worn dress of delicate white lace and denim slid from its hanger onto a dusty wooden floor.

Pleading to be worn once again, the dress beckoned as warm memories of yesterday's love crept into my mind.

A vision of two dancing in the moonlight at water's edge, a kiss joining two hearts surfaced. Hurriedly, I slid into yesterday's gown with the hope that it might possess magical properties.

Swaying to a haunting melody that once was ours, I was drawn onto the terrace facing a sea aglow in lavender and gold.

The afterglow of the sunset cast a golden aura upon a lone figure at water's edge. Summoned by his familiar silhouette, I strolled down to the sea.

'Twas my love of long ago, summoned by a mysterious force to search for a distant but not forgotten love.

As our eyes met, I joined him. Dancing with my love near water's edge, I relived my glory days in my magical gown of denim and lace.

    Weslynn's January Newsletter 2006!

Happy New Year! In numerology, that represents a number eight year. In general, we may expect to see power, authority, discipline and philanthropy move to the forefront. We’ll see.

If numerology is a subject that you find fascinating, you may want to figure your personal year. If so, add the number of the month you were born to the number of the day you were born. Then add the total to the number of the current year. Remember, your personal year begins on your birthday, not on New Years Day. For instance, if you were born on February 26, 1964, your personal year will change on your birthday to a number nine. So, what does that mean? It is the time of endings and of new beginnings; a time of change. It’s time to look at things objectively; to let go of the old ways that have not been working for you. There are many books available on this subject. I like things made simple, like W. Mykian has done in Numerology Made Easy.

Astrologically speaking, if your life has slowed down, if you have suddenly become discontented of if you’re being forced into a commitment, it is because on December 24th, Venus moved into its retrograde position. On February 3, it will move direct. During the time Venus is retrograde it would be wise not to make any commitments. This is a good time to decide what you want and what you don’t want. If you’ve just started a new romance, slow down; don’t move too fast. Take a good look at your partner. Is he or she what you really want?

Good news! I’m happy to say that finally, after many revisions and additions, "Timing is Everything; Astrology is the Key" will be released in early spring and will be available on-line at bookstores everywhere. Next month, I will tell you more. For now, I am in the final stages of my romantic suspense novel, "Skin Deep." If all goes well, it will be released within the coming year.

    Happy Birthday to all Aquarians!
